And now for the main event: in just a few days, the western part of the square will open to the residents of Pilsen.
The area between the cathedral and the bishop’s palace will be transformed into a car-free pedestrian zone. The sidewalks are now significantly wider, and the entire surface of the square is level—just as it used to be in the distant past. The original granite paving has also been restored; stonemasons hand-carved approximately 2,000 square meters of stone slabs, preserving the historic appearance of the surface while making it flatter and more comfortable for pedestrians. New street furniture has also been added, including benches in the shade of trees and misters that provide refreshment on sweltering days.
We will hand over the project to the city in the coming days. We hope that the people of Pilsen will enjoy living here and will love coming back—especially in the shade of the elms.
