Reconstruction of Bridges over the Railway Line Veselí nad Moravou – Vrbice

04.01.2024

Two nearly identical and almost one hundred years old bridges over the line Veselí nad Moravou – Vrbice in the Hodonín region have undergone a complete reconstruction after many years due to their unsatisfactory structural condition.

The structures of the bridges were damaged along their entire length, with the main deficiencies being exposed load-bearing reinforcement of the bridge deck, beams, and support columns, cracked and crumbling wings of the bridge abutments, corroded bearings, damaged parts of the load-bearing structures, and the absence of a waterproofing layer.

The existing structures of the bridges and their geometry were preserved. Loose and damaged parts were removed and replaced with new ones, including refurbished steel railings and remnants of the original road surface. A specialty was the replacement of the bridge bearings. Off fallen parts of the covering layers of both the upper and lower parts were repaired with suitable reprofiling mortar. A new road surface was applied, including a waterproofing layer.

The reconstruction was carried out over four months by the Hodonín team of the company Dopravní stavby MORAVA.
