SWIETELSKY Rail CZ received an award yesterday at the ceremonial announcement of the Railway Construction of the Year 2025 competition in the category of Construction of the Year – for the project Optimization of the Karlštejn–Beroun line. The award was accepted by the company's managing directors Walter Egger and Pavel Pechač. The Railway Construction of the Year competition honors the highest quality railway projects with significant technical, economic, and social benefits. The ceremony was also attended by top representatives of the Railway Administration, including the newly elected general director Tomáš Tóth, who will take office on February 1, 2026.
The awarded construction, carried out in a consortium, was exceptionally challenging for several reasons. The line runs very close to the Berounka River, while on the other side it is flanked by steep rock masses that needed to be stabilized and secured long-term. The work took place in the sensitive environment of the Protected Landscape Area Český kras, which imposed high demands on careful technological processes and precise safety solutions. At the same time, it was essential to carry out the entire modernization without completely interrupting operations, which required extraordinary coordination of all teams. The result is a significant increase in capacity, safety, and smoothness of railway traffic in the given section, bringing long-term benefits to the entire region.
