ETCS (European Train Control System) is a unified European train control system that continuously monitors a train’s movement, checks compliance with speed limits, and slows down or stops the train in the event of a safety hazard.
The requirement to equip trains with ETCS now applies not only to passenger and freight transport but also to special traction vehicles operating on the national rail network equipped with train control systems. The use of rail vehicles not equipped with train control systems on the national network is already significantly restricted.
The installation of ETCS in Class 740 locomotives therefore ensures not only compliance with legislative and technical requirements, but also operational flexibility of the vehicles and the smooth execution of work on the modernized railway network. The project is another step toward a safer, more modern, and technologically advanced railway infrastructure.
