Cyclical Renovation of the Včelná – Horní Dvořiště Railway Line

On the railway line connecting České Budějovice with Summerau, Austria, we – as the lead partner of the consortium – completed an extensive cyclical renovation of the Včelná – Horní Dvořiště section.

The work was carried out in two phases. In the first phase, we replaced rails, ties, and other components of the track superstructure along approximately 40 kilometers of track. At the beginning of May of this year, the second phase began, focused on completing the renewal of the track superstructure. This involved mechanical cleaning of the track bed, replacement of worn-out ties, laying of new rails, and drainage improvements. In total, approximately 30 kilometers of rails and 25,000 ties were replaced as part of the project.

The project also included the reconstruction of seven railroad crossings, repairs to the bridge between Kaplice and Velešín, and work on station tracks at several stations along the line, such as in Včelná, Holkov, and Kaplice.

A significant portion of the renovation was carried out by the SMD80 machine from SWIETELSKY’s fleet, which performed the continuous replacement of rails and ties. Organizing the work on this international line was also challenging, as it was necessary to coordinate track closures in such a way as to maintain service toward Austria.

The completed renovation has contributed to increased safety and reliability of rail transport on this important connection between South Bohemia and Austria.
