A New Safe Crossing for Cyclists and Pedestrians on the Elbe Cycle Route

A project for a new section of the Elbe Cycle Route has been launched in Kostelec nad Labem. Its key element is the modification of the existing road bridge over the Elbe River and the addition of a dedicated route for cyclists and pedestrians. The main goal is to separate non-motorised traffic from road traffic on road II/244, which is used by at least 7,000 vehicles per day in this area.

What the project will bring to the public

  • Safer and more comfortable connection between the left and right banks of the Elbe, outside the roadway,
  • Better accessibility between Kostelec nad Labem and Kozly u Tišic,
  • Direct connection to the main Elbe Cycle Route and improved links to public transport (including access to Prague).

Technical solution

The project includes the symmetrical widening of the bridge cornices on the existing bridge No. 244-007 and the construction of access ramps. The route will be directionally separated to ensure smooth and safe movement in both directions. The project also includes four retaining and supporting walls and the necessary relocation of utility networks.

Projects like this are exactly what we enjoy working on: well-designed upgrades to existing infrastructure that deliver clear and quickly noticeable benefits for public safety while also improving everyday life in the area.
